Some time ago I developed an urge for a midi dress, something I never thought I would wear. It’s strange how these things are, and I blame fashion. After a while we adjust to new shapes and the old ones go out the window. Oh well – the Fibre Mood Holly is a great dress, easy to make and easy to wear, so no harm done.

The sleeves are what attracted me to this dress initially. They are slightly billowy, but not too much. The neckline has a soft gathering, too, and the length is easily adjustable. It has a slight A-line shape without being too voluminous. With this dress I made an effort with the details, and it always pays off. All the seams are “frenced”, and I made self covered buttons for the sleeves. The seam allowance along the zipper has Hong Kong binding. The result is a dress I really enjoy wearing.

The Fibre Mood patterns are good value, and with the downloadable instructions and pdf-patterns in addition to the paper magazine I don’t see how it can get much better. The instructions are clear and the pattern comes together nicely. Inspiration for fabric choice or ways to hack it abounds on #fibremoodholly on Instagram. Maybe the next version should be a blouse?

I used a lovely viscose crepe called Dune Night from Atelier Brunette, and it was a perfect choice. It is quite lightweight, but not clingy. I love the outcome. This time I made no modifications to the pattern, not even to the length, and I made a size 40. A perfect autumn dress!
